Let's Talk Bangs
Have you ever noticed the different kinds of bangs on all those hairstyles? Some are flat and lay
closely to the forehead moving over one eyebrow while you’ll see others cover a complete eye and it’s all in the name of bangs. Fluffy
bangs, pixie bangs, thin or thick bangs, irregular zigzag chopped bangs and batman bangs. Gelled bangs, spiked bangs, foiled or tinted
bangs and even bangs that do not look like bangs! Are you actually thinking about going “bangs?”
Time to do a soul wrenching heart search about this dilemma we call bangs. To the professional eye
it is easy to see who needs bangs and those who would look better with their hair moved away from their face. Much of today’s trends is
another story though, it seems many of the rules have been broken just because they can have what they want, not in the style they would
look best in.
Have you ever seen a forehead so high it could touch Mt. Everest and they are wearing their hair
pulled back? We’ve all seen this. One of the first things I mentally do when I see this, is restyle her hair, meaning a good shaping,
to give her softness and a youthfulness that this severe style has robbed her from. Not many of us can wear our hair completely back
like that due to a high forehead, age, large nose or poor hairline.
Doesn’t it just make sense to make the best of what you have? Bangs are on their way back,
according to the USA Today. In hairstyling circles, they never really left. Bangs have always been in vogue. Today, you can be given a
complete symmetrical shaped bang with 3 fashioned slices much longer than all the rest. This isn’t because you’ve been given a bad
haircut, it’s because this is so in, so today! Your hair can be cut completely even, but to look this way, is not necessarily right
anymore. Did you ever think you’d see the day when it would be in to have a small amount of hair squeezed back into the center of the
head and gathered together with a tiny rubber band with hair the size of a quarter sticking out of it? And this sticks out sportily from
her baseball cap. This is today’s busy woman. Her bangs are hanging about a foot and a half along side of the cap. Yes, those are bangs.
This is considered art.
The smooth flat bang can be achieved with a good gel rubbed gently throughout the hair first, or
whatever styling lotion that is your preference. Blow it dry with a large round brush. Take thin to medium sections of your hair and
place your large round brush at the bottom of your scalp while you have your blow dryer on and begin to pull out your brush as the same
time. Lift your hair up with the brush to the end and curl your hair under and blow again. Repeat this until your hair is dry. If you
have done this successfully you should have a large fluffy roll of hair laying on your forehead. Do you want to keep it this way or
wish to flatten it on your head? To flatten, take your bangs and move it across your head stretching it the whole time and see if this
is what you want. Spray with a good leading brand spray or setting styling spray and use your flat iron, beginning in the scalp area,
bringing each small section out and tilting just a small bit toward your face. Your bangs should lay flat in the direction you are
desiring. Place a small hairpin into your hair, if your hair goes along side your head for staying power. Spray once again and you are
ready to go.
If you want shorter fluffy bangs, it is a good idea to have them just a couple of millimeters in
the middle or just below your eyebrows as hair always shrinks and pulls up because of elasticity when cut. Blow your hair with a medium
brush tugging slightly under, spray and you’re done.
How daring are you? What bangs fit your personality? Are you more avant garde? If you are one who is
less conservative and more dynamic and outgoing, you might think of having a chopped irregular design. What could be more fun? This look
brings zest and hoop-spa to a face. If you have a round face, any added color in the bangs will help draw away from this roundedness.
Ask for a chopped irregular cut and have your hair colorist put some radical red mahogany slices in it. If you have brown eyes, they
will look coppery. Blue eyes will stand out with strawberry slices. Green eyes will look greener with a reddish coppery color.
