Hair Growth On Ears

Woman who is removing hair from her ears

Q: How can I prevent hair growth on my ears?

A: Well, the answer is that if you are a man, the appearance of ear hair and nose hair is unfortunately a fact of growing older. In most cases, it’s a matter of simply keeping an eye out for the developing hairs and shaving them off or trimming them away whenever they are present.

To date, there are no over-the-counter preparations that will inhibit hair growth, and the only prescription medications I know of for stopping unwanted hair growth are indicated only for women, as they utilize localized, topical applications of female hormones.

If you have an especially large amount of terminal hairs developing and growing on your ears (and not just the light fuzzy vellus hairs) perhaps you could speak to your physician and see what he would advise. Otherwise, the basic techniques of hair removal are always an option: shaving, waxing and plucking.
