Perming Eyebrows Flat
Q: I had an eyebrow transplant in April and the hairs are growing in sticking straight out. I was curious if it was possible to
perm the hairs flat, so they relax and lie flat. Right now, I am using hairspray to keep them flat. I realize that since they came
from my head, they need to be trained to lie flat. But they are driving me crazy and I don't know how long it will take for them to
get the message. Someone suggested perming them flat. Is it possible? Thanks a lot!
A: Well, the way the hairs will grow is largely determined by the angle at which they grow from the brow. If the angle of growth is
perpendicular to the skin’s surface, then even “perming” them to lie flat will only be a temporary solution.
My biggest concern is that you would use chemicals that are so harsh so close to your eyes.
The fumes alone can be very irritating, and I don’t recommend that you attempt anything of this type on your own.
Your first course of action should be contacting your cosmetic surgeon and asking him/her what
he or she recommends to resolve your issues with the transplants. Someone in his office should be able to help you with a solution.
If however, you cannot get a resolution to the issue, and you feel it necessary to do
something on your own to resolve the issue, you might consider using one of the very gentle gel relaxer formulas. The gel means that
you will have much more control over the placement of the product, and should allow you to make the hair lie flatter, at least until
it grows sufficiently to need a new treatment.
However, I don’t recommend you use the product alone (enlist the aid of a good friend), and
you need to read the packaging and instructions on the product very carefully to make sure you understand the risks involved. If you
have to choose between unruly eyebrows, and possible blindness or worse, I think unruly eyebrows would be preferred.
