Winter nostalgia and romantic notions of the times
Winter 2008 is turning into a period of contradictions. At least, this is one’s first impression, since today’s
self-conscious woman loves to envelop herself inside an aura of mystery while, at the same time, refusing to
give way to anyone or anything, a manly approach to facing the world. This may well be interpreted in a
quasi literal sense, for the female silhouettes sometimes give the impression of being masculine, yet of a
kind of masculinity that is tempered with delicate hues and refined motifs and detailing.
Winter fabrics dwell and dote on the past, rustic motifs cloak the fragile female form and yet project a sense
of self-assurance. Tweed, chine, wool, felt, and heavy jersey are flirting with total unconcern for the cold
winter days, while colourful details wrap the woman in their harmonious embrace. Flower motifs, the delicacy
of water colours, and hound’s-tooth check subtly decorate her garments and recall memories of her free and
careless youth.
White winter nuances and wintry details contrast sharply with nuances in grey and black. Shadowy tints such
as false blacks and hard to define browns are enhanced by the introduction of green, violet, red, and orange
intrusions. The bright, low midday sun reflects on pieces with honey and yellow-gold coloured rays. Blue is
combined with neutral tints and joined with silver-grey additions.
The Marie Méro female is fully conscious of her femininity and wears skirts of varying lengths, either pleated
or just plain straight, which she will combine with long-reaching outfits, woven jackets, and deliciously soft
woolen sweaters. Or she may well prefer to wear a pair of pants that, this season, are being adapted to and
fitted at the waist or just slightly above the waist. Solid cloaks complement her silhouette to perfection and
turn her into a self-assured, surely not to be trifled with, Marie Méro female ….
The Marie Méro collection is available in sizes 8 through 20.
