Facial & Washing Your Face

Woman who is washing her face

Q: How much time after a facial should I wait to wash my face?

A: Unless the facial contained ingredients designed to deposit medical or reparative ingredients into the skin, you should feel free to wash your face whenever you feel the need, or according to your normal schedule. It all depends on the type of facial you received and the ingredients used.

Some spas and salons offer an all-natural facial made of organic products and fruits designed to nourish and moisturize the skin. Even with careful removal of the facial masque using an astringent, some clients feel that their skin isn’t clean afterwards and prefer to wash their faces as soon as they are able to do so.

If you are ever in doubt about whether or not you can wash your face immediately following a facial service, ask the technician who administered the facial. In some cases, such as with a dermatologist, products will be used containing medication that the doctor wants to make sure are fully absorbed into the skin. He or she may instruct you not to wash your face for several hours to ensure that this occurs.
